Dr Simon Kennedy

Dr Simon Kennedy is a Clinical & Forensic Psychologist with a specialty in psycho-legal assessment, particularly in family and children's law matters. He specializes in psychological evaluations and family reports in family law and children's law, and providing court testimony in these areas, in more than 2000 family law and 1000 child protection matters over more than 30 years.

Dr Kennedy is an experienced expert witness, especially in family and children's law matters.  He has completed over 12,000 independent psycho-legal reports over more than 30 years in criminal, family, children's, civil and compensation matters, including single expert family reports, individual psychological and psycho-sexual evaluations, criminal law matters, and has given evidence to Australian Courts on several hundred occasions. He has extensive therapeutic experience with a broad range of client groups and conditions over more than 40 years.

He holds a Bachelor of Behavioural Science, Master of Psychology (Clinical), Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical Psychology; University of Melbourne) and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. 

He is a Fellow of the Clinical, Forensic and Educational/Developmental Colleges of the Australian Psychology Society, undertook post-graduate training in family therapy and is an endorsed AFCC family report writer and trainer. He has been a registered psychologist since 1984 and is AHPRA endorsed as a Clinical & Forensic Psychologist.

He is Director of Psychology Camberwell, has held senior positions in Clinical Psychology, was a tenured Senior Lecturer at Australian Catholic University for 13 years, a visiting senior lecturer at RMIT University over 16 years, has published over 20 papers in Australia and international journals, has presented to over 40 Australian and international conferences, and was an assessor for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy. He has been an independent examiner for WorkSafe since 1995, is an independent examiner for the Transport Accident Commission, and is a performance examiner for The Psychology Board of Australia.

He has published on and presented at national and international conferences on family and children's court evaluation, family therapy, evaluation of child sexual abuse and male sexual arousal. He has specific training and expertise in family evaluation, psycho-sexual and parental risk evaluations, psychological evaluation (including evaluation of mental health and personality), reviews of family court evaluations, and family therapy.
